Issues I've found on the standard 1190 after 30K km are: 1. Fuel level software froze and needed an update. Others have had sticky floats. 2. I found the radiator fan plastic housing badly cracked when taking the bike apart during its winter service. Easily fixed with epoxy and a layer of glass. 3.

788 Alright, the moment you have all been waiting for, MY review of the 1290 Super Adventure R VS the KTM 1090 ADV R. I actually feel like a fool for having never really looked into the 1290. When I first saw them with that headlight and 1290 in the name, I just assumed it would be ugly and heavy. I was partially wrong.
The 950 adventure and the 990 adventure wanted somehow to be the “replicas” of the dakar models, leaving the customers with some impressive experiences in terms of maneuverability and torque, but quite some challenges in regards to fuel consumptions and reliability. In this sense KTM got its bad reputation of not being “the best” bike
2016 1190R filter and pump failed at less than 3000 miles. Left stranded in Colorado. KTM would do nothing to assist. Had to rent truck to bring back home.
KTM 890 Adventure R – More off-road biased with longer travel, chunkier suspension. Reliability & build quality 5 out of 5. No problems at all in 7000 miles. Value vs rivals 5 out of 5.
It seems, by the You tube videos anyway, the 1190R may be the best of them. Of course this is purely based on the reviews of those who love them. For comparison some say the 7.3 Powerstroke engine was the absolute best motor to ever come from Ford. I have a 1997 7.3; engine is damn near bulletproof.
